Project ProcessThe purpose of this project was to learn about archaeology and artifacts. First we had to fill out a archaeology web quest by doing research. Next, we picked five artifacts that best fit our personalities, and then put those items in a bag of our choice. This becomes our Personal Culture Bag. Then each person in the class would do a presentation in front of everyone. The people not presenting, would take notes on the person presenting. Why take notes on everybody? Because after this, everybody is going to make a shoe box with dirt and different artifacts, but with the same personality trait(we would do stratification). After that, Ms. Drago would then number each box, mix them up, then would give them to a different person to dig up. Finally, when that person is finished digging, they would fill out an analysis and deduction sheet, and try to figure out who's box they had. We also made a field trip to the Museum of Man. There, we did another archaeology dig and found small replicas of the things they had at the museum. We also looked at real mummies they had there.

What I learned |
Archaeology is the study of antiquity (the science of studying material evidence to find out about human cultures of the past). I learned some new vocabulary such as analyze, which means to study or find out the nature and relationship of the parts of by analysis. At the museum, I learned that when you are making a mummy (kinda GROSS), you pull out the brain from the nose. During the web quest, I learned that there are different types of archaeologists. For example collections specialist, zoo archaeologist, underwater archaeologist, historical archaeologists, environmental archaeologist, geode archaeologist and oral historian. I learned that my classmate Sofie likes music. During the Personal Culture Bag presentations, I practiced skills such as taking notes. While doing the archaeological dig, I practiced skills such as cleaning off artifacts.

Reflection |
I enjoyed this project because when I did my archaeological dig, I felt like I was a real archaeologist. My favorite part of this project was making the shoe box because I like to dig up dirt. I think I did well on this project because I got a 99% for my grade. I am happy and most proud of my grades because I got a 99%. If I could do this project again, I would switch out one of my artifacts; my wooden knitting needle for something else because now it is all stained with dirt because it was decomposing.
