Project DescriptionIn this project, we did research on organic methods to make a mini organic farm, with the goal to kick-start our community garden into a full-fledge working farm. We were working in the “field” and researching local farmers markets to take ideas to our own organic farm. We gained the historical knowledge of farming in San Diego County, Suzie's Farm and Wild Willow Farm, then learned hands-on techniques to run our own HTMCV farm. We were taught plant anatomy and physiology while looking at energy and energy cycles. With the elementary school, we engineered and created our very own wood fired oven, with the ultimate goal of eventually supplementing part of the lunch program at HTMCV. Through a farmers’ market experience at our Festival del Sol, we shared our research and informed our audience about what they have learned and how they can transform their knowledge into creating their own garden.
