Project Description Let’s dive into the world of PRINTMAKING! In this project we explored the principles and elements of art and design through various types of printmaking techniques. We developed imagery using symbolism that will be inspired by Día de los Muertos- Day of the Dead, based on line, shape, positive and negative space, and repetition of shapes and symbols. We studied historical importance of Day of the Dead, connect this to our own lives by looking at what makes us happy, and sets us free! We put on an exhibition for our families and community to experience. How can we celebrate the lives of loved ones? How do we celebrate our own lives, daily?

My Artist's Statement |
Focus, Breathe, Dance, Inspire
What sets me free is dancing, mostly ballet. This makes me feel free because sometimes I dance on pointe shoes, and get the sensation of floating. You also get to act and be a character using actions. I chose a Degas painting to represent what sets me free because he mainly paints ballet dancers, and I thought this picture was meaningful of that. I also chose musical notes to show what sets me free to represent myself playing the piano and getting lost in the music. My print symbolizes what my favorite colors are and how I love ballet and music. I used this girl for my picture because she was originally on the side of a stage, getting ready to dance. I chose my little brother, Luke, to celebrate and enjoy his life because he and my mom almost died when giving birth because he was born two months prematurely. Now he is a healthy and strong two year old. Another reason why I chose the background of my print is because when Luke has trouble sleeping, he listens to music. Riley Hernandez |
